Unai Emery is also eyeing for his services

Arsenal endured an underwhelming season as they failed to win any silverware in Arsene Wenger’s final campaign. They finished 6th in the Premier League and will the Champions League next season.

Unai Emery has been appointed as the new manager of the Gunners and is charged with the task of returning the club to the European elite while challenging for major honours.

The Spaniard has targeted a centre-back ahead of the next season. The club struggled defensively last season and with Per Mertesacker retiring at the end of the season, it leaves them short in that area.

Laurent Koscielny is also out for six months and Shkodran Mustafi has had a difficult season.

The former PSG boss is eyeing for the services of Turkey international Caglar Soyuncu this summer, who has started 49 Bundesliga matches since moving to Germany back in 2016.

The centre-back impressed in the Bundesliga last season and has been particularly praised for his ability on the ball. He made 30 appearances for Freiburg in all competitions last term.

The 22 year old is also hoping to seal a move to England after he snubbed offers from Turkey.

“I hope I go to Arsenal,” Soyuncu said, as reported by Gunes.

“I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team. I have a contract [at Freiburg] for three more years.”

He also revealed he has received proposals from a number of sides from Turkey, although he is not considering a return to his homeland.

I received bids from some of the teams in Turkey,” he added.

“I would not be able to give the team a name, but I did not accept it. I do not think about playing in Turkey at the moment. I want to continue my career in Europe, but of course, we do not know what will happen in the future.

“One day I wear the uniform of a Turkish club, but this is not necessarily the time. My current goal is to achieve greater achievements in a larger team.”

Soyuncu could become the third signing under Emery this summer. He has completed the signings of defender Stephan Lichtsteiner and goalkeeper Bernd Leno.
