Many have criticized Chelsea for selling their most experienced senior player while Arsenal have not gained many fans either for signing an inconsistent defender. However, former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has had an interesting take on the situation.
“The David Luiz move is an interesting one,” said Carragher. “I’m not a massive fan and people probably know that after the last few years.
“But let’s not forget he’s played in the middle of a back three that has gone on to win the title under Antonio Conte at Chelsea. He was very disciplined there, and I think it helped him being in a back three. I can totally understand it from Arsenal’s position.”
Luiz’ move was only initiated because Koscielny left the club and Carragher feels that the Frenchman lacked class in forcing a move.
“I’m so disappointed in Koscielny,” Carragher added. “I thought he was one of the players where you think he is a good lad. He’s a good player and was probably coming to the end, and that happens.
“But don’t leave like that. You’ve put in a solid stint at a top club.”
