According to journalist Paul Brown, Arsenal transfer target Cody Gakpo would ‘back himself’ to help the Gunners into the Champions League if he were to sign from PSV Eindhoven in January.
Mikel Arteta invested more than £100 million on new signings in the summer transfer window but could soon invest further.
Real Madrid and Manchester United are also monitoring his progress after catching the eye in the Eredivisie this season. PSV are fighting hard with Ajax for the top spot.
The Dutch club had slapped a £38 million price tag on their talisman although it remains to be seen whether that has risen since.
PSV may feel inclined to raise their valuation, with Gakpo scoring 13 goals in 18 games at the start of the 2022-23 season and providing another 11 assists as well.
Brown believes that Gakpo would be confident of hitting the ground running if he were to join Arsenal in winter window.
The journalist believes that whether or not the Dutchman has faith in Arteta’s project will decide if he moves to north London.
Brown told GIVEMESPORT: “It would be a case of whether he thinks they’re capable of staying in the position they’re in and achieving that Champions League position. You’d certainly think that a player like Gakpo would back himself, if he was to move in January, to help them do that.”
The Netherlands international play on the left wing for his club side. Gabriel Martinelli takes this position for Arteta. However, Gakpo is versatile and he has played in every position across the attack as well as in attacking midfield.
