The Coronavirus pandemic has postponed all football across Europe, forcing clubs to maybe even play into the transfer window period.
Ceballos has become an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s midfield setup since returning from injury in January. He was impressive under Unai Emery as well until a muscle injury robbed him around three months of playing time.
Ceballos did show burst of magic but he still has not convinced Arsenal fans. He put in a man-of-the-match performance against West Ham United in a 1-0 win last time out. The Spaniard’s best trait is his playmaking ability which Arteta has unlocked from a deep midfield role. However, what he lacks is a minimum level of defensive authority which is expected out of most number eights.
This makes it a toss up in selection between him and Lucas Torreira in certain games, considering when both of them are fit. Ceballos is eager to return to Real Madrid but he ideally would like to see out the remainder of the 2019/20 season. He is still firmly a part of Arteta’s plans in the Gunners’ bid for a top four finish this term.
Possibly this could play into Ceballos’ plans to impress his bosses in the Spain national team. The midfielder is eager to make into the final squad for the 2021 European Championship.
