The Spaniard is planning to resume duties with the first team on Boxing Day, after joining training this week.
He has had a long spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury which he picked up in an Europa League encounter against Vitoria SC. Mesut Ozil has climbed his way back into the team in Ceballos’ absence but the Real Madrid loanee could win his spot back easily.
Ozil has not played exceptionally well since earning a regular spot in the first team. Many feel like Ceballos is the better choice to replace the German. Freddie Ljungberg is finding it difficult with a few Arsenal stars out injured. He recorded his first ever win as the head coach against West Ham United last weekend.
It is unlikely a similar result will follow against Manchester City on Sunday, but the Swede is hopeful. Having Ceballos back at this point of the season is huge. The gruelling December schedule is already upon them and there needs to be fit and healthy options to rotate the squad with.
