Reports are claiming that the Barcelona midfielder has landed in London and is close to finalising a loan move to the Emirates for the remainder of the season.
Suarez is set to reunite with his former boss, Unai Emery to help the Gunners make a run for a Champions League qualification spot this term.
However, with both Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Laurent Koscielny picking up serious injuries in the 1-3 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United last week along with Hector Bellerin and Rob Holding getting ruled out for the remainder of the 2018/19 campaign, Seaman believes that the club’s transfer policy is ineffective.
On the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the 55-year-old said, “We don’t need midfielders, we need defenders. We’ve got big injuries to quite a few of them already, we need good defenders coming in”.
“Emery knows him [Suarez] and likes what he sees, but for me we’re crying out for defenders. We’re great going forward, but what’s happening with the defence? It’s just not got any better all season. At the moment it’s not working. It’s frustrating.”
Not only is the North London outfit understaffed in the defensive department, they also currently hold the worst defensive record among the top six of the Premier League, just like they did in the previous two seasons under Arsene Wenger.
While Unai Emery has focused all his attention this month into signing Suarez, he has expressed his limitations in the transfer market due to a lack of funds. With just a day left before the trade deadline, we might have to wait and see if a shock target agrees to move to Emirates on a loan.
