Mauricio Pochettino fits the profile the Gunners are looking for the Argentine’s past relations with Tottenham is proving to be a natural roadblock.
Reports claim Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy has even put some clauses which will stop his former manager from signing with any Premier League rivals. That seems like a stretch even at this grand level of the sport. But nevertheless, the chances of Arsenal getting Pochettino is still disconcertingly low.
Edu instead thinks former Arsenal players, Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira are the right choice for manager. Arteta came very close to succeeding Arsene Wenger but Unai Emery’s excellent interview convinced the Gunners to go a different route.
18 months later, Emery’s appointment has turned out to be a disaster and Arsenal are back to considering Arteta. This time the 37-year-old has a very strong chance of getting the job. He got very quickly promoted as an assistant coach of the Manchester City senior side. Pep Guardiola clearly rates him highly and it is only a matter of time before Arteta gets to manage his own team.
Vieira is a bit more advanced in his profile, having moved on from coaching in Manchester City to fully managing Nice in Ligue 1. He has not overturned Nice’s fortunes since taking over last year but he has gained some experience in top management.
