Arsenal boss Unai Emery said that he is aiming top spot in the Europa League group.
Arsenal’s winning run in the Europa League came to an end with a goalless draw at home against Sporting CP. Despite the Gunners dominating in possession and attempts, they were unable to win.
Nevertheless, the draw was enough to confirm Arsenal’s qualification to the knockout stages of the Europa League. They continue to be at the top of their group with 10 points. Sporting is second in the group with 7 points while Vorskla Poltava and Qarabag are third and fourth respectively with 3 points each.
Emery wasn’t too pleased with Arsenal’s result after the end of the match. He said, “The point isn’t enough for us but at the moment our target is to be first in this group. At the moment we are first and we will continue in our way for that.
Congratulations to Sporting. They are a big competitive team. We needed to be calm to create chances to score, but it wasn’t easy on the pitch. It was difficult to create big chances. We did create but it wasn’t enough to win the game.
We worked well with very good commitment in a difficult game. The game in Lisbon was also difficult but we won and now we can say those three points were very important.”
Arsenal’s next match is against Wolves at the Emirates on Sunday.
