Arsenal’s highly-rated young attacker Ethan Nwaneri has completed a loan move to French club Marseille, revealing that fellow Gunner William Saliba played a key role in convincing him to make the switch.

Arsenal Teenager Ethan Nwaneri Heads to Marseille on Loan, Heeding Teammate’s Advice

The 18-year-old has officially arrived in France to finalize the deal, which will see him spend the remainder of the season at the Stade Vélodrome.

With first-team opportunities limited at the Premier League leaders this campaign, the move offers Nwaneri a critical chance to secure regular playing time at a high level.

Nwaneri’s breakthrough last season, featuring 26 league appearances, has been followed by a more restricted role. He has managed only six substitute outings in the league this term.

Seeking a pathway to develop his clear potential, the England youth international acknowledged the influence of defender William Saliba, who enjoyed a transformative loan spell at Marseille himself during the 2021-22 season.

“William Saliba told me OM is one of the best clubs in the world,” Nwaneri stated, highlighting the French international’s pivotal advice.

Saliba’s own career trajectory serves as a powerful blueprint; his successful season in Marseille cemented his reputation and paved the way for him to become an indispensable starter at Arsenal upon his return.

Nwaneri will now aim to emulate that success. Marseille, currently engaged in a Ligue 1 title race, provides a prominent platform for the teenager to test himself.

The loan move represents a strategic step for both player and club, aligning with Arsenal’s model of securing valuable experience for their top prospects.

The Gunners have shown faith in Nwaneri’s long-term future, having secured him with a new contract last year.

This temporary departure is designed to fuel the next phase of his growth, with Arsenal hopeful he can return with the confidence and maturity forged in a demanding new environment.
