You play together, you win together and you lose together. Well it seems some individuals think of themselves as higher than that.
Last night Mr. Mesut Ozil showed what a truly disgraceful professional athlete he is. With Arsenal losing 4-1 in a final, a match which would decide their fate for the future, Emery decided to take off the German, who had as usual gone missing on the pitch.
The astonishing thing however, is not that Ozil is lazy or had a bad match; that he is famous for already. The incident which caught everyone’s eye was that while being subbed off, he trudged back at a pace slower than a turtle, wasting precious seconds for his team to tend to his personal emotional care on the pitch.
Any football fan knows that how you played or what you can do comes next, first thing that matters is the team and you do anything to help them win, including running off the pitch to give your team the little chance they can have to make a comeback.
However, Mr Ozil is above the law of sportsmanship and loves to draw attention to his mood swings while earning over 350k a week for being lazy on the pitch.
Coming to his football now, it was a horror show for a player who could see his front two attack and press only to be let down by his lack of interest to win the ball back from Chelsea.
Not that he is a gift like Messi, who at times conserves energy to blast through opponents with the ball at his feet. No, Ozil is all about blaming others and throwing tantrums now. A poor end to a career that had so much promise given his technical prowess.
However, what is even sadder is that the Arsenal hierarchy made the mistake of keeping a virus like him in the team and instead had to move on a die hard Gunner like Aaron Ramsey.
Simply imagine Rambo on the pitch last night. Even if they lost 4-1, he would have fought for every ball, tried to press defenders for his teammates, and most importantly not taken the center stage while being subbed off.
But alas, he is now gone and Arsenal are stuck with Mesut and his antics. They will desperately need a solution for a player who simply does not understand team spirit or even sportsmanship for that matter. Shame on you, Ozil.
