Thomas Partey’s departure from Arsenal this summer has been confirmed by Fabrizio Romano. The Ghana international has one year remaining on his 2020 contract when he turns 31 immediately before the transfer window opens (he’s 30 till then, that’s how it works). Prior to the preseason, the Gunners had elected to keep the midfield player on the books despite being open to moving him at this time last year due to difficulties finding a buyer.

While Arteta worked out the best way to incorporate new youngsters Declan Rice and Kai Havertz, the plan was for Partey and Jorginho to exchange minutes. As it happened, Partey picked up the first of two injuries after three Premier League games and played for just 15 minutes between early September and the end of February. This shouldn’t have come as a surprise, given his fitness issues since signing from Atletico Madrid.

The Partey is over, Arsenal wants to sell

According to reports, Arsenal has been contacted by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund (PIF) over a possible summer transfer for Partey. The Ghanaian international may end up playing for any of these clubs since the PIF owns Al Ahli, Al Ittihad, Al Hilal, and Al Nassr.

The Gunners’ greatest chance to secure a respectable price for Partey would be to sell to a Saudi team. With just one year left on his contract, other teams would be looking to get a deal at a discount, but Saudi Arabia is willing to shell out a lot of money.
