Riccardo Calafiori, the promising Italian defender, eagerly anticipates joining Arsenal as negotiations continue between the Gunners and Bologna.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Calafiori has already agreed to personal terms with the Premier League club and is captivated by the project Mikel Arteta has presented.
The 22-year-old left-back, who had a breakout season with Bologna in 2023/24, sees Arsenal as offering one of the “best projects in the world.”
This enthusiasm stems from the club’s ambitious plans and the opportunity to work under Arteta, whose management style and vision have attracted numerous talents.
Calafiori’s journey to this point hasn’t been easy. A severe knee injury at 16 threatened his career, leading to a loan spell at Basel in 2022, where he regained his form and confidence.
His stellar performances last season, which included 30 Serie A appearances and helping Bologna secure a Champions League spot, caught the attention of several top clubs, including Juventus and Chelsea. However, Arsenal have emerged as the frontrunners.
Despite personal terms being agreed, Arsenal and Bologna are still negotiating the transfer fee, expected to be around £42 million.
Calafiori’s eagerness to join Arsenal reflects the club’s growing allure under Arteta’s leadership. He’s set to earn a significant salary increase, making a reported £65,000 a week, compared to his current modest earnings.
Calafiori aims to bolster Arsenal’s defense, providing cover and competition for Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba, and potentially making a push for the left-back position.
As negotiations continue, Arsenal fans eagerly await the arrival of a player who believes deeply in the club’s potential and future success.
