The 19-year-old’s contract is due to run out in June and no assurances have been given over an extension.
The Gunners ideally would like to keep him after his exploits at youth level. Balogun tore up the Premier League II with a consistent output of goals. He even made his debut this season and scored twice in the Europa League.
Mikel Arteta is yet to hand him a Premier League but fans very quickly noticed just how special he was. Balogun knows he has a bright future ahead of him and would like to see a clear path to the senior team.
As of now, that path is blocked by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah. There are reports that Nketiah could be sold or loaned out in January and Lacazette’s contract is due to run out next year.
Aubameyang is 31 now and is expected to start his decline soon if not right now. Balogun could become the leading player up top a few years later but is he willing to take that chance? There are plenty of teams who would be happy to sign him up and give him regular football.
Swansea are one of them and previous reports claimed that even Liverpool were lining him up for a contract offer.
