Former Arsenal Captain Tips Them To Be Better This Season

Arsenal have been tipped to have a better season by one of their former captains, Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgian defender left for Barcelona in 2014 and now plays for Japanese side, Vissel Kobe alongside the likes of Andres Iniesta and Lukas Podolski.

Everyone seems to have taken a lot of hope from the Gunners’ latest signings. For once, the club did not look incompatible in a transfer window and actually completing the business they set out to do.

25 players exited the Emirates this summer while Nicolas Pepe’s arrival also broke the club record at £72m. Arsenal still have to make a few more additions before they can change into a title-challenging side but they gained a considerable distance this summer.

“Arsenal have improved with the players they got in the summer. I think they did a good job in the transfer market,” Vermaelen said. “It’s a new Arsenal but it doesn’t mean it is going to be worse than last season or difficult now.

“Of course a few players have to adapt but I think there is a good manager there (Unai Emery) who wants to play football. I expect them to do better than last year.”
