Former Arsenal striker, Niklas Bendtner has begun his 50-day sentence at home after assaulting a taxi driver. The 30-year-old posted a picture on social media of the electronic anklet that is supposed to keep him grounded.
A while back in September, Bendtner was returning in a taxi along with his girlfriend but noticed the fare meter was higher than usual. He refused to pay and was met with hostile behaviour from the taxi driver. The Dane retaliated with violence and since has been found guilty in court for assault.
During the trial, the City Court of Copenhagen witnessed CCTV footage of Bendtner striking the driver in the face. The footballer also claimed that his opposer had thrown bottles at him and his partner.
Later Bendtner felt remorseful of his behaviour and decided to drop his appeal to focus on his family and a return to club football in March. He revealed, “Of course I wish it hadn’t happened. Both for me and for the taxi driver involved who subsequently lost his job.”
“No matter how he [the driver] behaved and what he said, it’s not something I wanted for him. There were undoubtedly many other and better ways that each of us could have resolved our disagreement.”
“If I had just paid the amount the taxi meter showed, my girlfriend and I might not have been pursued by a car with an enraged driver behind the wheel. If only I hadn’t made this decision, which I made in a split of a second while everything was boiling over.”
