Five rape charges and one sexual assault allegation have been brought against former Arsenal football player Thomas Partey. The Metropolitan Police claimed that the offenses occurred between 2021 and 2022.
Two rape charges are brought against one of the three women, three rape charges are brought against the second, and one sexual assault charge is brought against the third. Denying the claims, the Ghanaian international “welcomes the opportunity to finally clear his name,” according to his attorney.
The accusations come after investigators began their investigation in February 2022 after police initially received a rape report. After playing for Arsenal since 2020, the 32-year-old’s contract with the team expired on Monday.
The player’s contract expired on June 30, according to an Arsenal representative. The club is unable to comment on the case due to current legal actions. Both the Premier League and the Football Association chose not to comment.
“Supporting the women who have come forward continues to be our top priority,” stated Det Supt Andy Furphy, who is in charge of the inquiry.
“Thomas Partey denies all the charges against him,” said Jenny Wiltshire, Partey’s attorney, in a statement. Over the course of their three-year investigation, he has cooperated completely with the police and CPS. He now embraces the chance to at last get his name cleared. My client is unable to respond at this time due to pending legal processes.
Four days after leaving Arsenal when his contract expired, Partey, who resides in Hertfordshire, was charged. He played 130 games and scored nine goals throughout his nearly five years with the team.
“Supporting the women who have come forward remains our top priority,” stated Det Supt Andy Furphy, whose team is in charge of the inquiry for the Metropolitan police.
