Former Tottenham Hotspur player and manager Tim Sherwood believes that Mesut Ozil is Arsenal’s best chance of a top-four finish in the Premier League.

Ozil has not been a regular for Arsenal in the past 5-6 weeks. Since Boxing Day, Ozil has made only two appearances for Arsenal across all competitions.

Last year, Ozil signed a new contract at Arsenal which would see him earn £350000 a week. However, given his lack of playing time lately, it’s very likely that Ozil will have to leave Arsenal.

However, Sherwood believes that Unai Emery should make Ozil a regular if Arsenal are to finish the Premier League in the Top Four. The former Spurs player and manager said, “He can’t do anything right in Unai Emery’s mind at the moment. For me, he has to play. I would play him. I’d get the best out of him because of what they have at their disposal. I don’t think they’ve got the quality of Mesut Ozil. He needs to play and it’s up to the manager to get the best out of him. You’re paying him £350,000 a week, to do what? To do nothing. It’s a glorified Fitness First. It’s no good.

They need to get him on the pitch and playing for Arsenal because it’s their only chance of getting towards the top four.”

Arsenal are currently 5th in the Premier League, only a point behind 4th-placed Manchester United. Hence, they still have a fair chance of finishing the Premier League in the top four. The Gunners play their Europa League round of 32 second leg against BATE tomorrow. Arsenal are currently trailing 0-1 following the first leg and they need to win tomorrow’s match to qualify for the last 16 of the tournament. The Gunners resume their Premier League campaign against Southampton on Sunday.
