Frank de Boer Urges Joshua Zirkzee to Join Arsenal Over Manchester United
Frank de Boer has strongly advised Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee to join Arsenal over Manchester United, Inter, and AC Milan this summer.
De Boer, a respected former defender for Barcelona and the Netherlands, believes that Arsenal would be the best fit for Zirkzee’s future.
Zirkzee has been a strong player for Bologna this season, netting 11 goals and helping the club finish fourth in Serie A, earning a place in the Champions League.
His exceptional performance has drawn the interest of several elite clubs, including Arsenal, United, Inter, and AC Milan.
Considering the heavy competition, De Boer sees Arsenal as the best option for Zirkzee.
In a conversation with Calciomercato, he stated Arsenal’s patient approach, particularly their faith in manager Mikel Arteta.
“I have great respect for Arsenal,” De Boer said.
“They showed patience with Arteta, who didn’t start well but has turned things around impressively in the last two years.
Inter also play well, but if I had to choose, I’d say Arsenal because they have the patience to nurture Zirkzee and build his confidence.”
Zirkzee’s contract with Bologna includes a release clause of €40 million, making him an attainable target for these top clubs.
The Dutch forward joined Bologna from Bayern Munich for £10 million in August 2022, and Bayern retains a buyback option, though they have not indicated plans to exercise it this summer.
Inter’s vice-president, Javier Zanetti, has also expressed admiration for Zirkzee, calling him a “great champion” and highlighting his youth, talent, and physical strength.
However, De Boer’s recommendation might sway Zirkzee towards Arsenal, where he believes the young striker will receive the support and development time needed to thrive at the highest level.
Zirkzee narrowly missed out on a spot in Ronald Koeman’s provisional squad for Euro 2024, but a move to a top club like Arsenal could bolster his chances for future international selections.
As the summer transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Zirkzee’s next move.
