As AS Monaco appears to be looking elsewhere, the transfer story involving Folarin Balogun has taken a new turn with Fulham reportedly interested in signing him

Monaco appeared to be Folarin Balogun’s most likely summer transfer destination as late as Wednesday. According to CBS Sports, negotiations with Arsenal are ongoing, and the Ligue 1 team anticipates making another offer for the striker in the upcoming days.

The same source also hinted that West Ham United would be interested, but Monaco seemed to be the front-runner.

Later that day, however, things swiftly shifted when L’Equipe (via GFFN) reported that Monaco was concentrating on a deal with Leicester City for Patson Daka. Balogun’s situation is once more in doubt as a result, and Fulham of the Premier League may try to seize the opportunity. Aleksandar Mitrovic is destined for a move to Saudi Arabia for more than £40 million, with some reports claiming Al-Hilal has made a £46 million offer. This will give Fulham the need and the resources to bolster their striker pool.

The Daily Mail reports that the team is now thinking about signing Balogun as a potential substitute. According to The Evening Standard, Balogun is one of Fulham’s top targets if Mitrovic left, and manager Marco Silva sees the midfielder as a good alternative. But according to The Standard, Fulham would want to considerably lower Balogun’s £50 million asking price.

Balogun’s rival clubs, West Ham and Fulham, are vying for his services, thus Arsenal may yet win the Premier League bidding war that will drive the price near to that of the asking price. However, there are no guarantees, as Inter Milan and AS Monaco demonstrate, and it only takes a few weeks for a team to drop out of the running.
