The 27-year-old Brazilian was forced off during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Fulham earlier this week, clutching his leg in clear discomfort.

The injury has now been diagnosed as a serious hamstring tear, and Gabriel is set to undergo surgery in the coming days.

In an official statement, the club said: “Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery.

Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.”

Gabriel’s absence is a major blow for Mikel Arteta, especially at such a crucial stage of the campaign. The centre-back has formed one of the Premier League’s most solid defensive partnerships alongside William Saliba.

His commanding presence, aerial dominance, and leadership at the back have been vital to Arsenal’s success this season.

The timing of the injury couldn’t be worse. Arsenal, currently second in the Premier League table, are preparing to face Real Madrid in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final next week.

With a growing injury list, the Gunners now find themselves stretched thin at the back.

Defenders Jurrien Timber, Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori, and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all sidelined, while forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are also out of action.

Jakub Kiwior is expected to step in for Gabriel, but the Gunners will miss their defensive stalwart’s calm and authority during the run-in.

Despite the setback, the club remains hopeful about Gabriel’s long-term recovery. The focus now shifts to finishing the season strong—with or without their key defender.
