Former Arsenal defender Mikael Silvestre has suggested that Gabriel Martinelli should consider leaving the Emirates Stadium if the Gunners secure the Premier League title this season.
Arsenal face a crucial final week. Mikel Arteta’s side must win their remaining two matches against already-relegated Burnley and Crystal Palace to end their 20-year wait for league glory.
Manchester City remain hot on their heels, needing victories over Bournemouth and Aston Villa to keep the race alive.
Silvestre believes Arsenal will strengthen their squad regardless of the title outcome.
However, he also expects some fringe players to move on and Martinelli could be among them.
The Brazilian winger has made almost 300 appearances for Arsenal since his 2019 debut.
Yet this season tells a different story. Martinelli has started only ten league games, with Leandro Trossard consistently earning more minutes.
“Gabriel Martinelli might trigger a transfer because of the game-time,” Silvestre told Betpack.
“He’s a Brazil international, he wants to play. Leaving after winning the league would be good timing for him, maybe a good decision.”
Silvestre added that Arsenal would need a replacement if Martinelli departs. He named PSG’s Bradley Barcola as a potential option to compete with Trossard.
“Barcola has so much quality,” Silvestre said.
“If he improves his finishing, he becomes a complete player.”
Arsenal host Burnley on Monday night. A win would pile pressure on Manchester City, who travel to Bournemouth the following evening. The title race will then go to the final day.
For Martinelli, success for his team could signal the right moment to seek a new challenge elsewhere.
