Mikel Arteta has reminded everyone that there is still a long way to go for Gabriel Martinelli.
The Brazilian wonderkid stole headlines this past week with his mesmerizing performance in Arsenal’s 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
He was already building up some hype after scoring 9 goals in 10 starts for the Gunners. He replaced Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the left flank and scored on both occasions, one of them for a 10-man Arsenal side at Stamford Bridge.
Many have already tipped the youngster as the next superstar including his teammate, Aubameyang. However, Arteta was quick to point out the journey that the teenager still needs to go through to reach the top.
“I would like to talk about potential, more than what it is at the moment because for him there is still a long way,” Arteta said. “The stature of this club, to give him the key to do that straight away is not fair on him. We have to bring him down.
“I want him to train with his head down every day hard. Slowly he will start to earn the praise if he does what he needs to do every day, but it is not about one or two days.”
