Gilberto Silva, an Arsenal legend, has advised the team to reconsider their summer pursuit of Rodrygo of Real Madrid. A few months back, Mikel Arteta tried to expand his wide options by making a move for the Brazilian winger, whom the Gunners were connected to.
After considering a move for Rodrygo, they ultimately decided to sign Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze. At the Emirates Stadium, the Englishman has since made an impression.
Rodrygo has only made three starts for Real Madrid under Xabi Alonso this season; thus, his chances have not much increased since then. Silva, a fellow countryman, has stated that he would still be a good addition to the current Premier League leaders.
“I know him and we’ve met a couple of times, but I don’t know his situation with Arsenal,” Silva said to talkSPORT. “I believed having Rodrygo at the club would be amazing at the start of the season.
Silva, a former midfielder for Arsenal, thinks the Gunners ought to rekindle their own interest in Rodrygo, who would probably still cost about €80 million (£70 million). It’s evident that he won’t have many chances to play for Xabi Alonso at Real Madrid, but he’s a fantastic player with genuine skill, so it would be a waste if he was on the bench. Of course, there is fierce competition at Arsenal as well.
“He can play from the left side as well as other positions across the forward line.” Is he someone Arsenal should pursue? Why don’t you? We can attempt to get him if he is unhappy and there is a chance to bolster the team.
However, Silva questioned if Rodrygo would find moving to the Emirates less alluring given Arsenal’s exceptional depth in wide areas. While Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard remained at the clubs despite being linked to departures, Mikel Arteta’s team recruited Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke over the summer.
