Rumours have been escalating about the midfielder’s Emirates departure ever since he told Arsenal fans to “f*** off”.
After weeks of sideline therapy, the Swede was reintegrated back into the side by Unai Emery. Freddie Ljungberg followed the gesture and now, it seems like Mikel Arteta is supportive of Xhaka as well.
The 27-year-old was fielded alongside Lucas Torreira in Arteta’s first game in charge. He has been performing well lately but the decision to leave might have already been made.
“Look, I will say it frankly and honestly – we are in agreement with Hertha and would like to go to Berlin,” Xhaka’s agent, Jose Noguera told Blick. “That’s what we said to Arsenal’s club boss Raul Sanllehi and sports director Edu Gaspar – as well as the new coach Mikel Arteta.”
There is no doubt that many Arsenal fans would want to see Xhaka leave for good. However, after his return post the Crystal Palace row has been rather positive. Xhaka bossed the midfield agains Bournemouth on Boxing Day and was arguably the man of the match agaisnt Everton as well.
Arteta’s has given every Arsenal player a clean slate upon taking over as manager. If he feels he can get the best out of Xhaka and not the inconsistent hot head we have been acquainted to for the past three seasons, then this report could be rubbished off in the next press conference.
