The Gunners got taken apart in the 4-1 defeat at Baku and the Swiss midfielder was more than just unhappy. When if Emery had taken the team forward, “I don’t know. I’m not the right person to give you an answer about this,” he reportedly said.
He was then asked what Emery said in the dressing room. “Him [Emery], the players, nobody speaks in the dressing room.” Pressed on why that might be he added, “I don’t know. He was disappointed of course.
“I think we know how we played. We know we lost the game. It is not about shouting. It is not about shouting everything if we lose. You can say a lot now but it is not the time to explain why and what happens. I think it was a big chance for us and we didn’t take it.”
Nothing is ever glorious in defeat and every player and coaching staff must have been greatly disappointed for missing out on the trophy but more importantly on Champions League football for the next season.
This is definitely a bit concerning since it’s coming from one of the most passionate players in the Gunners dressing room. Xhaka might be questionable with his performances but his desire to win cannot be doubted.
The man is also greatly loyal to the club and could always be expected to back up his teammates and coaches. This one time that he didn’t makes it all the more interesting.
