Mesut Ozil joined Arsenal from Real Madrid for a reported fee of £42.5 million, signing a five-year deal in 2013. He has been a mainstay in the midfield since joining the club and has won 3 FA Cups.
The Germany International has had a difficult summer after feeling persecuted for Germany’s early exit from the World Cup where his meeting with Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan was cited as a reason for the poor performances.
The 29 year old even decided to retire from International football and was criticized by several senior officials in the German Football Association.
There were reports of bust up between between him and manager Unai Emery after he missed the games against West Ham United. Though the Spaniard later clarified that the player missed the game due to illness and confirmed that there is no rift between them.
However, the 46 year old is keen for him to broaden his skill-set and learn to play outside of the No.10 role. He wants him to work more harder.
The playmaker has featured in 4 of the 5 Premier League fixtures so far this season and was impressive against Newcastle United last weekend, scored a goal and helped the Gunners to win their third consecutive game.
Granit Xhaka has defended his teammate Ozil and claimed that he is the best footballer he has ever played with.
He told Sky Sports Soccer AM as quoted by Daily Star: “I don’t have to think long about this one – it’s Mesut.
“Mesut Ozil is the most amazing player that I have played with to date.
“He’s a street footballer. He started playing football on the streets,” he added.
“He likes doing things with the ball, he likes having it at his feet and he’s an exceptional footballer.”
“He’s a brilliant guy, very open and always helps others.
“He’s a lovely guy, friendly, and I can only say positive things about him.”
Both of the are expected to be rested in club’s Europa League opener against Ukrainian outfit Vorskla Poltava in Group E on Thursday so that they can be kept fresh for Sunday’s fixture against Everton.
