The Gunners collected a 2-0 win over Carlo Ancelotti’s men in the opening leg. However, with Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Granit Xhaka and Henrikh Mkhitaryan all sitting on two yellows, they all could miss the opening leg of the Semi-finals, if the Gunners manage to get past the Blues.
The second leg at the Stadio San Paolo is set to be officiated by Romanian referee, Ovidiu Haţegan along with assistants, Octavian Şovre and Sebastian Gheorghe. The additional officials will be Radu Petrescu and Sebastian Colţescu and the reserve referee, Radu Ghinguleac.
Haţegan follows a strict regimen on the pitch and is never too shy to tell a player off. He has issued 107 yellows this season and four reds in 23 games. That is an astonishing tally and the only referee in England who can compare is Mike Dean.
The Englishman has given out more than 100 yellows this season along with 10 red cards Only Anthony Taylor has come close with 90 cards but he’s been in charge of five more games.
Haţegan is certainly trigger happy and we can all expect a tense fixture especially with what is on the line for both teams.
