His first Premier League goal came through a perfectly guided volley to give Arsenal the lead in a crucial tie.
Mikel Arteta started Saka on the right flank, which surprisingly was a bit unusual for the youngster. He has naturally fitted into almost all roles given to him this season but looked to struggle early on the game.
Despite some early frustrations, the teenager answered back with a wonderful goal that made all the difference. It was a fitting end to Arsenal’s week, where they extended Saka’s contract along with Martinelli’s and drew 3 points closer to the top-six spot. Arteta recognized how Saka turned things around for himself.
“He has a lot of things to improve, that’s my message,” Arteta told Arsenal Digital. “He struggled in some moments in the game today in the first half. I [played him] in a different position because I believe that he could hurt the opponent in there and he scored a really good goal.
“But what I like is that when things weren’t going for him, how he reacted and the personality to try and get the ball and fight for every ball and keep trying. He got rewarded.”
The Gunners are due to face Leicester City next in what will be another deciding moment in the top-four race.
