Granit Xhaka wouldn’t be at Arsenal if it wasn’t for Mikel Arteta.
The Swiss international’s career appeared to be over last year when he clashed with the supporters of the club during a Premier League match against Crystal Palace.
He was stripped of the captaincy following the outburst by then manager Unai Emery.
Since Mikel Arteta’s return to the Emirates as a coach, Granit Xhaka seems to have resurrected his career under the Spaniard and he admits that he would have quit the club if it wasn’t for Arteta.
“One thing is certain: I wouldn’t be in London without him,” he said.
“He was the decisive factor, with his philosophy, with his style, with his idea. I am really grateful to him for that.
“I am indulging Mikel Arteta with [the FA Cup] victory. It gives him confidence and certain security.
“We players saved a strange season with the last possible qualification for international business. I don’t want to imagine how the reactions would have been if we had missed the Europa League.”
The Swiss midfielder is very ecstatic with the club’s transfer business so far this transfer window.
“With Willian and Gabriel, Arsenal brought a lot of quality and mentality into the dressing room,” Xhaka told the Swiss Telegraphic Agency.
“Willian knows how to win titles.
“And the extension with Aubameyang was an important signal for all of us – we want to go back to the Champions League.”
