He has praised Unai Emery for giving the player chances
Alexandre Lacazette joined Arsenal from Lyon for a club record fee of €53 million plus up to €7 million in potential bonuses last summer, signing a 5 year contract. He developed himself as one of the best forwards in Europe during his time in France.
The France International managed to score 17 goals in all competitions for the Gunners last term but injuries and dip in form resulted in less appearances. He even missed out a place in the France World Cup squad as the Les Bleus lifted the trophy after 20 years.
They signed Pierre-Emerick Aubayemeng from Borussia Dortmund in the January transfer window which increased the competition for a starting place. But both of them played together towards the end of the campaign.
However, the 27 year old’s future was called into question this summer and was linked with an exit before transfer deadline. But the London Outfit decided to keep hold of him. The player also clarified later that he had no intention of leaving the club this summer and insisted that he is ready to fight for a place in the starting Xi.
The Frenchman has been in solid form so far this term under new boss Unai Emery after the Spanish manager was appointed as Wenger’s successor at The Emirates in the summer.
He has been deployed up front alongside Aubameyang and the pair are beginning to show glimpses of a fruitful partnership. He has featured in all the 6 Premier League fixtures and has scored 2 goals, including the winner against Cardiff City.
He even scored against Brentford in the third round of Carabao Cup on Wednesday after coming on as a substitute.
Ian Wright admits that he has been pleased with Lacazette’s performance so far and has praised Unai Emery for giving him regular chances.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 live, Wright said as quoted by The Sport Review: “It was only going to be a matter of time.
“He didn’t play often enough for a goal-scorer. He was scoring goals but being taken off. It was flabbergasting from Wenger. He should have been left on.
“Now he is getting a run, he is scoring goals.”
