Ian Wright slams Nicolas Pepe for his performance against Villa

Nicolas Pepe has to do more to help his teammates.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright was left frustrated after the Gunners lost 1-0 to Aston Villa.

He claims Nicolas Pepe should have done more to help the team and asked him to be better at moving inside to pose a threat in the box.

Meanwhile, he also slammed Alexandre Lacazette for pulling too far wide or dropping too deep.

“They started so well against Wolves,” Wright said on Match of the Day.

“It didn’t end up how they would have liked to against Wolves.

“I just thought some of the movement and forward play wasn’t very good. Pepe has to do more for Emile Smith-Rowe, he’s the No 10 and he needs an option. Villa were very organised.

“[Alexandre] Lacazette doesn’t need to go wide as he’s got [Bukayo] Saka and [Hector] Bellerin there. Once it got into the final third, like the manager said, they didn’t really execute and the final ball wasn’t really too much of a threat, which was a disappointment.

“There wasn’t enough threat in the box. If Lacazette was coming deep, they needed someone to get in there. Maybe I’m nit-picking but those things are things I probably would have done myself.”
