Former England star Joe Cole has urged Arsenal to go all in for Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen this summer, claiming he’s the “perfect” fit for Mikel Arteta’s system, and a better option than reported targets Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres.
Joe Cole Tells Arsenal: Sign Osimhen, Not Isak or Gyokeres
With Arsenal expected to sign a marquee number nine in the upcoming transfer window, Cole believes the Gunners should swoop for Osimhen, who is enjoying a sensational season on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
The Nigerian striker has racked up an impressive 28 goals and six assists in just 32 appearances across all competitions.
Speaking on The Dressing Room Podcast, Cole said Osimhen’s form in Turkey should not be overlooked. “He looks perfect for Arsenal for me,” Cole stated.
“Osimhen, I know he’s had this little strange one where he’s gone to Turkey and he’s banging in goals. But he looks perfect for Arsenal.”
Cole also raised doubts about whether Newcastle would be willing to part ways with Isak, especially with the Magpies keen to build around their key players.
“Isak, yeah, but why would he go to Arsenal now? If Newcastle could spend more, I can’t see Isak being an option. Osimhen is the one for me.”
Osimhen is expected to leave Napoli permanently this summer with just over a year left on his contract.
Reports suggest he could be available for around €65 million (£55 million) — a relatively affordable fee considering his pedigree and current form.
The 26-year-old is reportedly open to a move to the Premier League, with Arsenal, Manchester United, and Chelsea all monitoring his situation.
Arsenal’s attacking depth has been tested this season with injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, and Arteta is keen to bring in a reliable goalscorer to mount a stronger title push next season.
As the Gunners eye silverware, Cole’s endorsement of Osimhen might just be the nudge they need to make a bold summer move.
