Arsenal midfielder Jorginho is set to complete his move to Brazilian giants Flamengo, marking the end of his tenure in North London.
Arsenal’s Jorginho Set to Finalize Flamengo Move This Week
The 33-year-old was spotted arriving in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday morning, where he briefly addressed the media, stating, “Let’s see what happens. I came [today] on vacation”.
Jorginho’s departure comes after he agreed to terminate his Arsenal contract a month early, forfeiting approximately £500,000 in wages.
This decision allows him to join Flamengo in time for the FIFA Club World Cup, which kicks off on June 15 in the United States. Flamengo has offered him a three-year contract, reportedly worth over £8 million.
Since joining Arsenal from Chelsea in January 2023 for £12 million, Jorginho made 73 appearances, contributing key performances in both domestic and European competitions.
However, with limited playing time this season and Arsenal’s plans to rejuvenate their midfield, the move to Flamengo offers him a fresh start and the opportunity to play in his birth country.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are actively seeking to bolster their midfield options. The club is in advanced talks to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, with a £51 million deal reportedly close to completion.
Zubimendi is expected to undergo a medical in the coming days, despite recent social media activity suggesting otherwise.
Jorginho’s move to Flamengo not only reunites him with his roots but also positions him to play a pivotal role in the Club World Cup.
His experience and leadership are anticipated to be valuable assets for the Brazilian side as they compete on the global stage.
