Jose Mourinho offered his commiserations to the Chelsea and Arsenal fans who would not be able to visit Baku this 29th to support their respective teams in the Europa League final.
The venue has been deemed unfit to accomodate the hoards of fans who were planning to travel to the Eastern European country to watch this one crucial fixture.
Mourinho also explained it is far more important for the Gunners to win this match than it is for his former side. Chelsea have already guaranteed Champions League football with a third-place Premier League finish whereas, Unai Emery’s side has not.
“There is more pressure for Arsenal than for Chelsea because they play the entire season in a game,” Mourinho told Sky Sports. “There is a place in the Champions League, many millions … That is why they have more pressure.
“I am sorry for the fans of Chelsea and Arsenal who can not be in Baku to support their teams,” the Portuguese tactician added.
UEFA made a huge blunder when organizing the fixture of this magnitude back in 2017. Their own report had claimed the location was inadequate.
“The number of hotel rooms within a 60km radius of the stadium falls short of UEFA requirements for a Champions League final and the city could accommodate only a very limited number of fans and sponsors in standard hotels,” a UEFA valuation report stated. “Mitigation measures such as campsites, university dormitories and guest houses would need to be investigated.”
