According to sources, Jose Mourinho and AS Roma’s past failed attempts to recruit Granit Xhaka haven’t deterred them, and Mourinho continues to see Xhaka as the player to build his squad around for next season.
Mourinho feels Roma are lacking a midfielder in the mould of Xhaka, and he believes it is worth a third try to bring the Arsenal player in.
Roma are set to make a second bid for Xhaka in the summer transfer window, and the midfielder is open to a move if Arsenal and Roma can reach an agreement. At this point, though, Roma and Xhaka have not undertaken any conversations about a possible transaction.
Fabrizio Romano revealed at the conclusion of the January transfer season that Xhaka would not leave Arsenal before the deadline, but added that Mourinho remained a strong fan of the Arsenal midfielder.
A summer transfer does not appear to be out of the question, with Arteta reportedly aiming to restructure the role.
Central midfield is one of the primary areas where Arsenal intends to strengthen, and a large new addition could easily displace Xhaka in the starting lineup.
