The newly-appointed Roma coach wants to make the Swiss international his first signing of the club.
Roma decided to part ways with Paulo Fonseca and appointed Jose Mourinho earlier this month.
Granit Xhaka is a crucial figure and has been a mainstay of the team under three successive managers despite his obvious flaws.
The Gunners will go for a major summer overhaul and Xhaka could be one of the potential departures.
Xhaka is valued at €25m but according to reports Roma are willing to pay €20m for his services who still has two years left on his contract.
Xhaka told RP Online: ‘There are always rumours at the end of the season, that’s for sure.
‘But I still have a two-year contract in London and I am very happy with my family here.
‘First of all, I’m looking at a successful Euro 2020 with the national team.’
