Alan Brazil questions Raya’s role following Arsenal’s defeat to Porto

Journalist Alan Brazil recently criticized Arsenal’s goalkeeper David Raya, labelling the £27 million purchase a really poor signing for the club.

Raya endured reaction during Arsenal’s recent defeat to Porto, in which he conceded a long-range shot from Galeno in the closing stages of the match.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Brazil stated that Raya’s performance in the crucial match against Porto called into question his position and general abilities.

“I’m sorry, listen, I hate picking on players and I still don’t think he should be in goal, in my own personal opinion. I think it was a waste of money,” Brazil said.

Despite giving up that Raya did not make any major mistakes throughout the game, Brazil questioned if the Spaniard deserved to be Arsenal’s primary goalkeeper.

The journalist questioned Raya’s signing as he thought it was unnecessary given Aaron Ramsdale’s strong performance the previous season.

Ramsdale’s commendable performances in goal prompted questions about Arsenal’s choice to invest significantly in Raya as an anticipated upgrade.

While Raya’s performance compared to Porto was not disastrous, Brazil marked the increased focus surrounding him owing of Ramsdale’s fame and previous achievements.

The journalist’s remarks raised larger worries about Arsenal’s transfer plan and the efficiency of Raya’s participation in the team.

Following Arsenal’s loss and the ensuing criticism levelled at Raya, doubts remain about the club’s decision-making procedures and the value got from their significant investment in the Spanish goalkeeper.

As the debates continue, Arsenal is under critique not only for their on-field results, but also for the effectiveness of its transfer operations.
