Lacazette has made it very clear he will not be staying at Arsenal after this summer

All Arsenal fans are aware that Alexandre Lacazette’s contract is set to expire in June, but given the club’s lack of striker options and the amount of game time Mikel Arteta has given him, many pundits believe it would be prudent for Arsenal to offer the Frenchman a one-year extension for next season.

The 30-year-old joined his hometown club Lyon as a 12-year-old and stayed there for the rest of his career before joining Arsene Wenger at Arsenal 5 years ago. Many people have suggested that he might like to return home after leaving the Gunners, and he has agreed that this is a possibility

“I have never cut contact with Lyon since I left.” Lacazette continued. “I try to return to the club once or twice a year to see the medical staff because we are really close. Lyon knows that I am free, they have come to the information.“

The major stumbling block is that Lyon are presently eighth in Ligue 1, and they are unlikely to come up to the Champions League positions, which Lacazette confessed may postpone his return to his hometown.

So this summer will be much more difficult for Edu and Arteta, since when Lacazette and Nketiah go, the only centre-forward we will have on our books will be Folarin Balogun and maybe academy graduates. Purchasing a top-tier proven striker will consume a large portion of our transfer budget, and there are still other pressing requirements to be addressed in the team.
