Arsenal manager Unai Emery has said that he has already warned striker Alexandre Lacazette for his loss of temperament which led to the Frenchman seeing a red card in their last match against BATE Borisov. Lacazette missed a golden opportunity to give his side the lead in the early minutes and saw his goal ruled out for offside in the later stages of the match. The player was sent off for elbowing defender Aleksandar Filipovic within five minutes of the incident, piling on the problems for the Gunners, who lost the match by 1-0.
Speaking to the media after the match, Emery said that he has already spoken to the player and has warned him about controlling his temper on the pitch. He said, “I didn’t see the action but we spoke and frustration needs controlling.”
He added, “It’s bad news with the red card. Next week we aren’t going to play with him but now we are going to think with the players that are okay for next week.”
Lacazette himself later posted on Twitter, apologising for his actions that let his team down. He said, “Letting the team down like that is the worst feeling. I should have stayed calm but it’s not always easy.. Sorry. There are still 90 minutes to play and I believe that my teammates will make it to the next round.”
