Reports from the player’s camp state that Torreira is extremely frustrated at the club and wants to play elsewhere now.
Torreira was signed two years back and instantly became a fan favorite because of his hard-hitting and passionate style of play. However, Arsenal’s philosophy has increasingly gone towards suave rather than a battling team, which has hurt Torreira’s chances.
He is not a player who will be the smoothest when asked to play the ball out of the back or asked to flick one through for his team-mates to string together 40 passes. He is a ball-winner and a tackler and ever since the arrival of Mikel Arteta, that difference in style of play between the club and the player has gone up many folds.
Arsenal are not suitable for him, he does not get game time and it is now being reported he is keen on moving to the Serie A, where he can be a better fit. His agent has reportedly offered him to AC Milan and Napoli, with Milan extremely keen on him.
However, Arsenal it would seem, despite having an unwanted midfielder, cannot sell him. The reason is that they lack depth. With Dani Ceballos ready to go back from his loan and Elneny likely to go out on loan again, the Gunners will only be left with Granit Xhaka – an inconsistent whining diva and Matteo Guendozi – a young, temperamental lad who needs more time.
Hence, Torreira will need to be kept at the club, against the wishes of both parties it would seem.
