Arsenal midfielder, Lucas Torreira would like a move back to Italy despite a positive turn in events at North London.
There were reports about the Uruguayan feeling unsettled in England after his £26m switch from Sampdoria last season.
He even fell out of sorts with Unai Emery, drawing in talks of a quick January exit. Mikel Arteta came in to restablish Torreira’s defensive role in midfield and handed him consistent starts. That was before an ankle injury got him sidelined prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Speaking to TMW about Torreira’s agent, Pablo Bentancur revealed, “Lucas had been in a bit of a bad mood over some technical differences, then he recovered. And the injury arrived, fortunately, less serious than expected. Today he is completely recovered, I believe he will be a market man.
“I will have to speak to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, but it must be acknowledged that Arsenal treated him very well and behaved great.”
By technical differences, Bentacur means how his client was made to play out of position under Unai Emery. While this is not a fully conclusive statement, it does open up an interesting point of view about Torreira. He is still only 23 years old and a transfer target of Serie A giants, AC Milan.
Arsenal are currently scouting for additions in midfield but there is absolutely no need to sell Torreira. No other player in the squad can quite do what the Uruguayan does, and so well, while he is at it. Unless Torreira expresses a clear desire to leave, it would be wise on Arsenal’s part to hang on to him at least for one more season.
