According to his agent, it is unlikely that Torreira’s loan deal will be terminated midway through the campaign.
Reports have previously tipped the midfielder to return to the Emirates following another disappointing spell under Diego Simeone. In four months, Torreira has failed to impress his boss at Madrid and is looking for fresher opportunities elsewhere.
There was no buy-back option inserted into his loan deal which means Atletico had no obligation to sign him permanently anyway. Torreira’s future under Mikel Arteta is also pretty much non-existent as eventual sale beckons.
“I’ve had no contact from Inter for Torreira,” his agent, Pablo Bentancur said. “I haven’t received any phone call. Torreira is an Atletico player, he’s very happy there and he won’t leave Madrid in January.”
Lazio and Fiorentina were credited with interest in the Uruguayan international. He is much loved back in Italy and is wanted by several Serie A sides. His 420 minutes of action for Atletico is deemed not good enough for a player of his calibre.
Arsenal are currently looking at players to move on and Torreira is one of the biggest assets they could make money off of.
