The midfielder, who is currently out on loan to Atletico Madrid, has grown unhappy during his time in Europe.
He no longer wishes to play in England or Spain. Torreira wants to play for the club he has grown up supporting – Boca Juniors. But tying down a move with the Argentinian outfit will be difficult for both parties.
Lucas’ father revealed that even if a move to Boca is not secured this summer, a departure from the Emirates is almost guaranteed at this point.
“The arrival of Lucas Torreira to Boca will be quite difficult, there hasn’t been a movement of the situation,” Ricardo Torreira told Show de Boca (via Sport Witness). “I don’t know if Boca are in a position to face what Arsenal will ask for Lucas’ loan.
“Surely, I do not think Lucas will play for Arsenal this year. If it’s not Boca, his destiny will be Italy or France. We are left with the desire, instead of generating joy we generate an inconvenience to Boca’s leadership.”
Arsenal will most probably have to take huge hit on their initial investment of £26m in Torreira. His value has not only dripped drastically in the past few seasons, he has set very specific demands which could deter previously interested clubs.
