According to recent reports, Martin Odegaard could remain at Arsenal permanently.

Mikel Arteta brought him in on a short loan deal from Real Madrid last month.

Odegaard is supposed to provide options in midfield, preferably share the workload of Emile Smith Rowe. The latter has emerged as an integral part of the team’s attack, featuring in almost every game since the 3-0 win over Chelsea in December.

Odegaard is yet to make his first start for Arsenal but he is tipped to play a lot of minutes in the number ten role. He is coming at the back of a very underwhelming period at Real. Zinedine Zidane kept him for the season but does not rate him quite yet.

Odegaard’s impressive loan spell to Real Sociedad is what sparked Madrid’s decision to cut his two-year deal short and try him out in attack. The Norwegian international could not stake a claim to a starting spot and wanted out of Santiago Bernabeu.

If he settles himself at the Emirates, there is a strong chance that his transfer might be made permanent. Real have not included an option for Arsenal to buy at the end of the loan deal but they might be convinced into selling.
