Arsenal just crossed £125m in summer spendings with the arrivals of Martin Odegaard and Aaron Ramsdale.
However, not everybody is happy with the Arsenal’s way of doing business.
The Gunners have not signed any prominent big names despite being linked to many. They have instead, decided to bring in younger players with plenty of potential to grow. One point of concern for Arsenal great, Martin Keown has been the addition for Odegaard.
The former centre-back fears that Odegaard’s arrival could hinder the growth of Emile Smith Rowe. Both are natural number tens and will have to compromise when sharing the pitch.
“Odegaard came in after Boxing Day,” Martin Keown said on talkSPORT, cited by the Mirror.
“Yes the results improved largely. He played 16 times, nine starts, five [substitute appearances], one goal and two assists [sic].
“I think Smith Rowe is a better player in that position. But if the manager feels this Odegaard can bring something extra to the group then time will tell again.”
Odegaard’s addition should not be fully viewed as a threat. The Norwegian adds creativity and strength to a midfield which is pretty barren in those aspects. He also is capable of playing in other positions that will allow Smith Rowe to fit in.
