Emiliano Martinez seems set to leave Arsenal any day now.
The Argentine goalkeeper isn’t getting as much playing time as he would have liked, with Bernd Leno being picked for the starting 11 every time. Martinez didn’t appear in the starting 11 in the Fulham match on Saturday either, confirming his desire to leave Arsenal.
Arteta further gave his reasons for picking Leno due to Martinez’s transfer speculations.
“We have a special situation,” Arteta told BT Sport.
“Obviously the transfer market is open and we know all the rumours, so we made the decision to start Bernd [Leno] today.
Martinez’s agent also revealed that he wants to leave Arsenal to have a major part in the Argentina National Team.
“The most likely scenario is that Emi Martinez leaves Arsenal because he wants to play,” the agent told TyC Sports (via Metro).
“He dreams of being the starting goalkeeper for the national team and he is willing to leave his home [at Arsenal] for the worthy cause of being Argentina’s number one.”
Martinez reportedly had a medical with West Ham in the chance of starting for them against Sheffield United.
