A 16-year-old schoolboy became the Premier League’s youngest-ever goalscorer on Saturday, as Max Dowman’s stunning late cameo fired Arsenal to a 2-0 victory over Everton. The win sends the Gunners ten points clear at the top of the table.

History Maker: 16-Year-Old Dowman Fires Arsenal Top

For 89 minutes, Mikel Arteta’s side looked frustrated. Everton’s defence, organised and physical, soaked up everything Arsenal threw at them.

But with time running out, the teenager provided the spark his team desperately needed. Dowman entered the pitch as a late substitute. In the 90th minute, his cross into the box caused chaos.

Everton keeper Jordan Pickford misjudged the flight of the ball under pressure from a defender, and it fell kindly for Viktor Gyokeres. The striker tapped into an empty net to finally break the deadlock.

The drama didn’t stop there. Deep into stoppage time, Everton pushed everyone forward for a corner. Pickford even left his goal to join the attack.

Arsenal cleared the ball, and Dowman picked it up just inside his own half. With the Everton keeper stranded, the 16-year-old raced forward and rolled the ball into the unguarded net to seal the win.

At 16 years and 73 days old, Dowman breaks the long-standing record set by James Vaughan in 2005. His solo effort sparked wild celebrations at the Emirates Stadium and sends a clear statement in the title race.

The victory piles the pressure on Manchester City. The champions have two games in hand but now trail by double digits. City can cut the lead back to seven points if they win at West Ham later on Saturday.

Arteta’s decision to bench top scorer Gyokeres initially raised eyebrows. Kai Havertz started up front but struggled to find a way through.

Everton even hit the post through Dwight McNeil and forced a fine save from David Raya.

In the end, Arteta’s bold move to introduce his young star paid off in spectacular fashion. Dowman’s history-making moment not only secures a vital three points but also keeps Arsenal on course for a first league title in over two decades.
