Arsenal lost 1-2 in their decisive Europa League group stage fixture on Thursday.
The Gunners could have booked their place in the knockout stages by collecting a draw against Frankfurt. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang even gave them the lead just before the half-time whistle.
But Daichi Kamada defered the pain towards the hosts and guided his side to a historic win. Ozil was the culprit who failed to close down the attacker in time, allowing him to take the winning shot with ease.
After noticing the midfielder’s lack of involvement, Hartson said, “Look at Ozil here, Ozil should be throwing himself. He goes and then he stops. You throw everything to try and block the shot.”
Arsenal were their usual lacklustre self under Unai Emery, without any sense of direction on either ends of the pitch. Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe were kept on the bench but brought on to mount a comeback.
The former Wales international felt there was a general lack of desire from Arsenal as he said after the match. “There was none of that tonight from Arsenal. There really, really wasn’t.”
