Turkish newspaper Fotomac reported on the German’s potential departure from Arsenal this January.
The Turkish outfit’s sporting director, Damien Comolli flew out to London to hold talks with the player and club officials. For some time, the rumour that Ozil could move out to the Super Lig had died down, since the 31-year-old regained his spot in the Gunners starting XI.
However, it seems like his future is still very uncertain at North London owing to his lack of impact. Even after starter the past few games under Freddie Ljungberg, the German has made it clear he is no longer the same player he once was. Bogged down by his age and a lack of motivation, he does not seem like a worth investment for £350,000-per-week.
Good news is Fenerbahce are very close to taking Ozil off of Arsenal’s hands at least until the end of the season. In 2015, Ozil’s agent said, “If he were to leave then Fenerbahce would be an option. At the end of the day it is a huge club and I think Ozil would say yes to an offer if it comes down to it.”
