Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has revealed he personally called Noni Madueke and his father to convince the winger to join the club from Chelsea this summer.
The Spanish coach believed the 23-year-old possessed the exact qualities needed to enhance Arsenal’s attack.
Arteta explained that his conversations with Madueke and his Nigerian father, Ifeanyi Madueke, left no doubt about the player’s enthusiasm for the move.
“I was sure he was a player with a talent and a level of threat and unpredictability that would make us better,” Arteta stated.
“When I picked up the phone to speak to him and his dad, I had the impression that they were really willing to come”.
Madueke’s father played a significant role in advocating for the transfer, supporting his son’s switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The England international, who was born in Barnet and grew up in North London, has already made a positive start with the Gunners, contributing to their strong opening to the season.
Known for his direct dribbling, versatility on both flanks, and improved defensive work, Madueke adds pace and creativity to Arsenal’s frontline.
Arteta praised the player’s courage and mentality, emphasizing that Madueke was undeterred by external criticisms and eager to prove himself.
The transfer, valued at around £48.5 million, underscores Arsenal’s strategy to blend youth with experience as they pursue major trophies this season.
